are always welcome to use the beach and pool after checkout, and a

How is the beach?
When
it comes to family beach spots, nothing tops Siesta Public Beach in
Sarasota – gradual slopes, shallow waters, lifeguards, a playground,
gentle waves, fine white sand and translucent waters. It continually
makes several of America’s Top 10 lists of best beaches based
on sand, water quality and facilities. Tropical Shores and Tropical
Sun Beach Resort are less than a 2-mile drive to the Siesta Key Public
Beach.
We
have direct beach access to Crescent Beach, which is a private beach,
and offers the same beautiful white sand and crystal blue waters.

What is the difference between Tropical
Shores and
Tropical Sun?
Tropical
Shores and Tropical Sun are located right next to each other and operate
out of one office. Both properties are very nice and share the same
beautiful beach access. Tropical Shores is the most preferred location,
it’s a AAA 3 diamond property, and has had an over two million
dollar renovation offering very modern accommodations. Tropical Sun
is also a GREAT property located right next to Tropical Shores and
was chosen in the summer of 2003 as the #1 Family Resort by the Discovery
Travel Channel. It also is rated one of the highest properties on
the island by Superior Small Lodging. We think you would find both
properties very nice, but Tropical Shores is slightly more expensive
offering a few more upgrades and a slightly better location.

What is a Florida red tide?
A
red tide is a higher-than-normal concentration of a microscopic alga
(plant-like organisms). In Florida, the species that causes most red
tides is Karenia brevis. This organism produces a toxin that can affect
the central nervous system of fish. At high concentrations (called
a bloom), the organisms may discolor the water. However, red tides
are not always red. They can appear greenish, brownish, and even purple
in color. The water can even remain its normal color during a bloom.
Local Red Tide reports can be viewed at www.floridamarine.org.

Is it safe to swim during a red tide?
Yes,
swimming is safe for most people. However, red tide can cause some
people to suffer from skin irritation and burning eyes. Use common
sense. If you are particularly susceptible to irritation from plant
products, avoid red tide water. If you experience irritation, get
out of the water and thoroughly wash. Do not swim among dead fish
because they can be associated with harmful bacteria.

Do we need a car if we are staying at
the Resort?
No,
not necessarily. There are several shops and restaurants within walking
distance, to name a few: Captain Curts, Granny’s Café,
Javiers, Miguels and City Pizza. You will also find a 7-11, and a
few places to enjoy nightlife within walking distance.
Siesta Village, where there are many more shops and restaurants, is
approximately 2 miles north of us. On the mainland of Sarasota, you
will find an abundance of restaurants, local and chain types, shopping
centers, movie theaters and nightlife. You could expect to drive between
5-15 minutes to reach any of these places in Sarasota.
